Academic progress tracking

UCDS describes assessment as authentic, individualized and continuous rather than centered on conventional tests or grades. Teachers use:

• Direct observation and one-to-one coaching.
• Goals referenced to internal reading, writing and math Continua.
• Individual reading conferences and Booklist Goal sheets.
• Journals and collections of classroom work.
• Student self-evaluation and reflection.

Admissions

UCDS requires kindergarten applicants to be five before September 1 of the entry year and states that there are no exceptions to the cutoff.

2027–28 steps

1. Create a Ravenna account and “explore” UCDS; the school plans to notify families when applications open in early September 2026.
2. Attend a required adult tour, normally 9:00–11:00 a.m. on school days from October through January.
3. Submit the preliminary application and $75 fee—preferably by early December because the school caps the process at 300 applications.
4. Submit the parent questionnaire, teacher evaluation and cognitive-test results by January 14, 2027.
5. Register for an Early Elementary applicant visit, expected February 25–27, 2027; confirm the dates because the official page contains a year typo.

UCDS accepts WPPSI-IV for children under six, WISC-V for children six or older, and KABC-II. It explicitly states that admission is not determined by a test-score threshold. The committee considers the visit, parent questionnaire, teacher recommendation, family information and testing together to build a peer group supporting rigor, respect and critical thinking.

Tuition and financial assistance

Financial assistance can cover tuition, after-school programming, required curricular events and some classroom-related expenses. Admissions is described as need-blind. The 2027–28 Clarity application is due February 12, 2027 and uses 2025 tax returns plus supporting W-2/1099 documents.
