Getting to Know Your Child

At OLL, assessments are designed to help us better understand each student as an individual learner and ensure we can provide an environment where they will thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Kindergarten Screening

Kindergarten applicants participate in a small-group Kindergarten Readiness Assessment typically held during the first week back from Christmas Break in January.

The screening focuses on:

• Early literacy and language development
• Social-emotional readiness
• Fine motor skills
• Early math concepts
• Classroom readiness skills

These assessments are welcoming, developmentally appropriate, and designed to help our team understand how best to support each child’s growth and success.

Grades 1–8 Academic Assessments & Laker for a Day Experience

Students applying to grades 1–8 participate in an academic assessment after submitting a completed application and once space availability has been reviewed.

At the same visit, students are also invited to participate in our “Laker for a Day” shadow experience, giving them the opportunity to experience daily life at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School firsthand.

Prospective students are paired with a student ambassador and spend time with the grade-level cohort they are applying to join. During their visit, students attend classes, participate in classroom activities, meet teachers and classmates, and experience the welcoming and inclusive culture that defines the OLL community.

The assessment process helps our team:

• Establish academic baselines
• Understand learning strengths and needs
• Ensure appropriate classroom placement
• Thoughtfully build healthy and balanced learning cohorts

The “Laker for a Day” experience allows students to:

• Experience authentic classroom learning
• Explore student life and school culture
• Build connections with peers and teachers
• Gain familiarity with routines and expectations
• Discover what it means to be part of the Laker community
