Building Confident Learners, Compassionate Leaders, and Strong Foundations

At Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School, our Primary Program is intentionally designed to help young learners build confidence, independence, foundational academic skills, and a joyful love of learning during the most formative years of elementary school.

From Kindergarten through 2nd grade, students are supported in developing not only strong literacy and math skills, but also the social-emotional, organizational, and problem-solving skills that help children thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

We believe young children learn best when they feel safe, connected, challenged, and celebrated. Our primary classrooms are nurturing, engaging environments where students are encouraged to ask questions, take academic risks, build friendships, and discover their unique gifts as learners and members of the community.

At OLL, we intentionally balance high expectations with developmentally appropriate support, helping students build the confidence and foundational skills needed for long-term success.

Kindergarten

A Joyful Beginning

Entering Kindergarten is an exciting milestone, and OLL is committed to making it a joyful, nurturing, and confidence-building experience for every child. Our Kindergarten program provides a safe, engaging environment where students build independence, foundational academic skills, friendships, and a love of learning from the very beginning.

Kindergarten students engage in structured literacy instruction, hands-on math exploration, inquiry-based science, social-emotional learning, and faith-centered community experiences designed to support the growth of the whole child.

1st Grade

Growing as Readers, Writers, and Leaders

First grade at OLL builds upon the strong foundations established in Kindergarten while helping students develop increasing confidence, independence, and academic stamina.

Students deepen literacy skills through a multisensory approach combining whole-group and small-group instruction, guided reading, writing workshop experiences, and hands-on learning opportunities.

Students also engage in collaborative projects, inquiry-based science experiences, service-learning opportunities, and classroom leadership experiences that help foster confidence, curiosity, and community.

2nd Grade

Building Confidence, Responsibility & Faith

Second grade is a year of tremendous academic, social, and spiritual growth at OLL.

Students continue strengthening foundational reading, writing, and math skills while developing greater independence, confidence, and problem-solving abilities. Instruction emphasizes critical thinking, collaboration, hands-on learning, and meaningful application of skills across the curriculum.

Second grade is also a deeply meaningful faith year as students prepare for and celebrate First Reconciliation and First Communion within the life of the Church and school community.

Specialists & Academic Enrichment

Intermediate students continue learning from specialist teachers who enrich the student experience through:

  • Art
  • Music
  • Physical Education
  • Spanish
  • Technology & STEM integration
  • Faith formation
  • Leadership and service opportunities

These experiences help students continue developing creativity, collaboration, curiosity, confidence, and joyful engagement in learning.
